Instructors: Rick McClain, Robert Martin
SSA McLain has been with the FBI since 2008 and was initially assigned to the Little Rock Field Office in Arkansas where he was an Assistant Team Leader on SWAT. In 2016, SSA McLain transferred to the Tactical Training Unit and in 2018 to the Ballistic Research Facility where he served as the Tactical Program Manager for 7 years. SSA McLain now serves as the newly formed Law Enforcement Partners Program Manager with EBT Robert Martin.
EBT Robert Martin joined the FBI in 2011 after completing military service. EBT Martin was initially assigned as a gunsmith to the Defensive Systems Unit prior to joining the Ballistic Research Facility in 2013. EBT Martin serves as the Test Operations Manager for research and development and co-manages the Law Enforcement Partners Program.
Bullets, Barriers, & Bodies is designed to educate law enforcement officers in the basics of terminal ballistics and wounding. The class discusses performance perceptions and factors related to ammunition selection. Additionally, the class discusses how weapon systems influence ammunition performance. LEOs will also learn about the performance limitations of common law enforcement equipment such as helmets, shields, body armor, and suppressors.
