Edged Weapon Tactics

Instructor: Todd Durbin, GPSTC

Todd Durbin is an instructor with the Georgia Public Safety Training Center and brings a unique perspective to edged weapons training. As a violent crime investigator, he investigated hundreds of encounters with edged weapons and has gained knowledge of early attack indicators and had the benefit of seeing what works in reality. As an instructor, he strives to fill the gaps in training and sees the use of knives and the defense of edged weapons as a large gap to be filled.

Class description

This course is designed for law enforcement officers who are likely to encounter threats involving edged weapons. During this course, officers will be taught best practices and cover the legal aspects of utilizing a knife in response to an active threat as well as defending themselves from a knife attack. Officers will develop skills in the use of edged weapons as well as realistic training for responding to a knife assault.

Class requirements

This class will be physically demanding and students should wear comfortable/training-appropriate clothing and eye protection.
