K9 Deadly Force Encounters and Takedowns

*This is a 2-day class, Wednesday & Thursday (16 hours)

Blake Broadhurst is an active 17 year police K-9 handler and instructor in Orlando Florida. He has served on numerous specialty units to include SWAT, narcotic interdiction team and crime suppression units. He has been involved in over 150 solo uses of force during his career, ranging from hand-to-hand combat to deadly force encounters. His defensive tactics background is in Goju Martial Arts and kick boxing, which he has integrated into K9 takedown off resisting suspects.

  • Bite suits if possible

  • Bite sleeve if possible

  • Long sleeve shirt

  • BDU pants

  • Long lead

  • Duty vest

  • Duty Belt

Class Description

This course focuses on developing K9 teams operational capabilities and skill level in real world deployments. The course teaches handlers how to effectively evaluate, engage, control and takedown an actively resisting suspect that is being apprehended by a K9. This is a hands-on course and will involve numerous realistic and common K9 deployment scenarios. The students will be instructed on: -Basic hand to hand combat defensive tactics -K9 team coordinated arrest tactics -CQB weapon and K9 choke defense tactics -Advanced strategies on building DT tactics for K-9 teams

CLASS REQUIREMENTS

Students should have their own bite suit or access to a bite suit.
