Self-Care/Buddy-Care Firearms Course

2024 ATOA/GTOA Award recipient with 15 years of law enforcement experience including Training Manager, Assistant SWAT Team Commander, DEA SWAT, Georgia POST Firearms Instructor, GA POST Use of Force Instructor, DEA Firearms Instructor, GTOA Firearms Instructor, 6 years of military service (US Army: 75th Ranger Regiment; Airborne; SOCOM; 4 combat deployments),

John Webster is the Training Captain for Walton County Fire Rescue. He has 39 years in Public Safety as an EMT, Paramedic, Firefighter, SWAT Medic and is an ALERRT Instructor, POST Instructor & NAEMT Instructor.

Class Description

The students will be taught Self-aid and Buddy-aid in the fashion of TECC for Law Enforcement in the classroom environment. The class will focus on treatment, movement, and transport of a downed Officer. The students will then use the training as it pertains to the practical environment under live-fire conditions.

The firearms portion will focus on the physical application and attention to detail of tactical medical skills cognitively learned during the classroom portion of the course. The students will be given tasks and challenges throughout the course at a fast and demanding pace. Some of the information will be new or updated information for some students, while possibly serving as a refresher for other students. The students will experience drills that are unorthodox to traditional teaching methods. The students will be tasked with performing the skills learned while engaging in tactical situations. No phones or cameras during the course.

Class requirements

  • Handgun with three magazines,

  • Rifle with three rifle magazines

  • 500 rounds of handgun ammo (Minimum)

  • 200 rounds of rifle ammo

  • SWAT or tactical equipment, ballistic vest, battle belt, ballistic helmet, boots, shooting gloves, wet weather gear, cold weather gear,

  • Baseball cap

  • Ear and eye protection

  • Hydration source
