Gunfighter Development Course

*This class is offered Wednesday, Thursday OR Friday (8 hours)

Class requirements

  • Round count: 250 pistol and 450 carbine training rounds

  • Duty carbine with sling and zeroed optic

  • Duty Pistol with holster

  • Clear ballistic wrap around eye protection (Oakley M-frames or similar are most recommended)

  • Hearing protection (electronic noise cancelling most recommended)

  • Duty belt and / or tac-belt

  • Carbine magazine chest rig, armor carrier (optional)

  • Body armor / shooter kit / tac-vest with plates

  • Ballistic helmet

  • Pistol holster: drop leg, owb, or chest rig (must have retention system) (serpa holsters not allowed)

  • Minimum 5 carbine and 5 pistol magazines (reduces reload time)

  • Spare batteries on mounted optics for either or both pistol and carbine (recommend spare batteries are brought. none will be provided)

  • Weapon lubricant and cleaning kit

  • Folding or camping chair (optional)

  • Water and snacks

Class Description

This 08-hour program is designed for LEO and personnel on advancing their knowledge, training capability, and range practices in order to develop their skillsets to modern practices that prepare for the fight. Students will go through a series of progressive development of pistol and carbine fundamentals, precision shooting in various body / cover positions, rapid weapon and kit manipulations, strong to support hand target engagement while using cover, speed reloads, movement and body manipulations, and communication methods.

Students will progress to weapon transitions required in close proximity threat engagements, foot manipulation work, shooting and moving / moving and shooting, and target engagement tactics designed to stop threats immediately. Students will be exposed to principles of maintaining a high readiness status mentally combined with their weapon skillsets. Drills and information developed through the program develops an officer’s assessment and accountability of their actions in relation to the threat variable. Program’s target engagement criteria are small-target-hit variables requiring rapid assessment and deliberate application of weapon fundamentals while under stress.
